VAMPIRISM.

Important notes about Eli’s brand of vampirism:

PERSONALITY.

Elijah is used to spending whole days without hearing another person’s voice. Initially coming across as somebody distant, he is actually quite an easy-going individual — but his social skills are somewhat unrefined from so much time alone.

He has a reserved temperament, full of politeness and gentility that doesn’t quite match the modern age, and yet with a few well-placed words it’s surprisingly easy to break his composure.

A natural helper and fixer, Eli strives to be useful above all else. It is what made him such a good doctor in the past, and nowadays, very dedicated to maintaining the lighthouse he calls home.

HISTORY.

Elijah grew up with a big heart and a prevailing wish to help people. Always the first to volunteer, the first to speak up when something was wrong, the first to offer his shoulder to share the burdens of his friends.

Naturally, it evolved into what he wanted to do with his life. He considered the many options of being a public servant, until, as an adult, he carved out his own existence as a doctor. He had the right temperament, the right amount of calm under pressure, steady enough hands, and thankfully, he was smart enough to pass his exams. He grew into someone quite well-respected at his hospital, working in emergency care.

During a night shift, he had a peculiar run-in with a patient. One who seemed slightly out of their wits — not like the usual drunken accidents who might find their way to the hospital at night. They were feverish, almost deranged, and their forearms were covered in self-inflicted scratches and bites.

Their psychosis was put down to a severe form of dehydration. After an overnight stay with a saline drip, antibiotics, some dressing of their wounds, they were allowed to return home.

For some reason, it stuck in his mind even after he got off work. There was something… off about the whole thing. He had seen people dehydrated before. Sometimes they cried, sometimes they got angry, sometimes they even hallucinated. But the way that particular patient acted didn’t seem usual. How they had harmed themselves… It didn’t sit right with him.

But in the end, there was nothing he could do. …Unless…?

Feeling guilty about even looking in the first place, Elijah checked the patient records for their address. He decided to pay a visit to check on them. When he arrived that evening, everything was dark, and there was nobody home. Seeming useless at the doorstep with his impulsively bought fruit basket under one arm, he eventually left.
